I've been reading/researching tow rigs the past couple of months and can't really decide which direction to go...
I keep reading horror stories from the powerstroke forum and the cummins forum's so "confused" I think could be used to describe how I feel about diesels...
I have personally towed a 4500# 4x4 & trailer once to Moab and once to the Black Hills using a 7.3 powerstroke and a 6.0 powerstroke and loved both of them. Both had relatively low miles and were in stock OEM configuration.
I wanted to know what everyone has/is using for tow rigs and your thoughts opinions on powerstroke vs. cummins and diesel vs. big block?
Personally I've never ridden in or drove anything with a big block in it...
What we're looking for:
- I would really like to stay under $10k
- I would like to daily drive it(but home to work is only a mile, "diesel?")
- Not looking for another project, or want to change injector pumps anytime soon(reliability wanted)...
- Something new enough that my wife would not be embarassed to drive it
I love the fuel economy of the diesels
- 4x4 a must have
- Long bed for sure
- Four door would be nice
- If diesel would prefer automatic, big block (454ci./460ci.) prefer 5spd. manual
It will be used to tow two snow mobiles + trailer in the winter and a few long trips during the year with a 4000# 4x4 + trailer (Rubicon, Naches, Moab, ect.) and hopefully I can daily drive it...
Thank you in advance for your opinions, tips, tricks, and overall useful information!!
