My wife commutes into Portland daily and she says yes... they are actively and aggressively enforcing this. More so than Washington has.

I understand the need for some but I think its a stupid law, just like the helmet law and seat-belt law......the "man" has to tell me when its safe to do what......how many times have you sat at a red light with no one around but the curvature of the earth and thought about running it because its plenty safe.....my point exactly. I will keep talking on the phone cause they aren't paying my bills and if I dont take customer calls then I dont have a job. My rant is over....LOL
Not advocating running lights, its just a example. Also not advocating holding your phone to your ear in Oregon.....just put it on speaker phone and hold it in front of your face ;D

I still see a bunch of people doing it and have not seen any getting pulled over for it. And Washington is a little different to Oregon's new law. Currently, officers can issue a cell phone ticket only after stopping a driver for another offense, like speeding or running a light. www.nwcn.com/news/Cell-Phone-Laws-Tightened-80858202.html

Washington County deputies were nailing people right and left on Farmington Rd today where I was working.
I have also see tigard and state police pull over people on phones today.
Lets face it folks the hands free device people love this new law.
I dont have a problem with it since I almost get hit or have had near misses with at least 3-5 people a day with my dump truck that are texting or talking on the phone and dont have a clue what planet they are on or what they are doing. That is not to say there is people out there and I have seen many that can do both things well.
The other thing is this new law will generate a ton of money as the 4 people I saw stopped all in a line today all got tickets no warnings.

To think that tickets make money is incorrect. With the time it takes to deal with them, when the fines are set high enough, they end up being revenue neutral. I deal with these unfunded mandates all the time, and it get pretty frustrating to be blamed for something that the Legislatures enact without appropriate technical input.
I suspect that Oregon's $142 is just about that, I suspect they plan on seeing a significant cost to enforce it.
