So we have been planning a Browns Camp trip with the hole family. This was a family only trip this is why no one was invited. We left Friday at noon to head towards camp, and that's win it started. My brother called because one of his friends (like a brother to me) had rented a trailer from my brothers store and when he loaded his scout on it the wheel fell off rofl. So they were going to be late because they needed a new trailer.
Then we get there and get camp set up, and all was going good. So we decided to start a fire but all the dry wood is with Brian the Guy with the bad trailer. So I drove around and found some left over wood from some other camp sites. This wood is so wet that I could have wrung a cup of water out of it, but we tried anyway. That was a bad idea. We used paper, 1/2 gal of gas, a flair, gear oil, then we started over from basics. We cut up some very thin peaces of wood, and used some cardboard in a teepee style situation. This worked it was a small fire but it was warm. Then Brian shows up and throws two prices of wood on the fire and we had a bonfire.
The next morning everyone else shows up, and get we ready for trails. This is were the fun begins! So there were 9 rigs total. We were headed for the top via power line, then cedar tree, but we didn't make it that far. We did the first leg of powerline then the second. On the very last part of the second leg there if a steep gravel hill you have to drive up. Well David my cousins husband has a full size bronco that he has allot of money into, but that didn't help him today. He had a rear u-joint go out so we pulled the drive line on the hill. Then we locked his front locker and he attempted to climb this hill in front wheel drive. Well that was a mistake because as soon as he put it in gear it put the front axle in a bind and snapped his front drivers cromolly shaft. So then we winched his 8000lb rig up the hill and I towed him back to camp.
We ate lunch then headed for fire break 5. We got all the way there and half of us through the tuff part and Brian's scout wouldn't start. We investigated the problem and found out that his coil was bad it was so hot you couldn't hold it. So my step dad Alan took his XJ and headed towards forest grove. We played around for a while until the coil cooled down in the cooler. Then we trough it back in and headed back to camp again sense it was allmost dinner time.
We ate dinner and headed back out to try and get some real trail time. Sense it was night time I took them out on cedar tree. This is a great trail for night wheeling. We got to the third leg of the trail and the Scout was having fuel problems. I think his vents are plugged because we took the gas camp off and it started pumping again. Off again for about 50 yards then the scout had a cloud of smoke coming from the Hood. First thought was I need a fire extinguisher but he forgot to turn his fan on so he was overheating. We let it cool down and back on the trail we go. We could never keep the scout cool after that we had to stop atleast three more times. We were allmost out of the trail when I heard STOP on the radio. My uncle Randy had two flat tires (yes I said two) they must have burped or somthing because there wasn't any hard stuff to make two tires go flat. So we put some air in the tires and I lead all of them back to camp.
This had to be one of the worst trips to bowns camp I have every had. Not to bash on my family because I love them all and most of the stuff was not predictable but its these times that I'm glad I'm a part of a club that is as generous and is as kind as you people are. Ive been the Guy that's broke down and you guys have allways been there for me and I hope someday I will be able to be there to help you out in the time of need. My dad (Jack) told me this weekyend that I don't allways need to be the Guy helping people out, but I disagree. I need to be that Guy because that's who I am no I mean that's who we are. A great club that leads by example. Have a good night guys and THANK YOU.
