Look what I scored after work today Dana 44 front out of a Wagoneer....super excited!!! Now the decision, narrow the housing to Jeepster width or go Waggy width both ends....any suggestions?

I narrowed my front d44 to wide track cj width. In hind sight I would not do it again. In like 6 months I regretted it. Go waggy width now. is that a wide track?

Its out of a 74-79 Waggy, I've been in debate on cutting 5-1/4" out of the long side and running early Bronco inner axle. If I stay full width I will have to come up with a Waggy rear. It's a financial vs performance. Paul, what's your number one reason for thinking you would rather be full width?

Stability on hairy stuff on the trail You can narrow the track width with your final choice in rim backspace to your magic number what ever it may be. 61"/62" wheel mounting surface is very popular in the northwest. It usually puts your wheels outside to outside measurement around 78" plus or minus. also the more backspace you run on your rims the less stress is directed at parts like ball joints and bearings, also scrub radius is reduced provided your rear axle is a little narrower then you front.
Also. From my experience I would stick with stock length shafts wherever possible. I will say however I have already started down the opposite path and have custom length stuff everwhere. If I was to do it over I would run stock length everywhere. But that's much harder them custom. Good luck.. lots to think about. Keep the questions coming if you got them.

'93-UP ISUZU RODEO/HONDA PASSPORT DANA 44
Differential Location: Centered Lug Pattern: 6-on-5.5 Good For: At 58 inches wide it's a good swap for YJs, TJs, and XJs that came with a Dana 35 Pros: Many came with 4.30 and 4.56 gears, strong housings, disc brakes, works great on late model Wranglers when matched with '80-'91 Wagoneer Dana 44 front axle

Started building rear sliders using 3x2 .188 wall tubing. They will sit at a 60 degree angle to match the bumper ends and original rocker panel angle.

Just wanted to say that you have an awesome shop. It must be nice having all that space! It is very nice, I can only use it from 5am to 6:45am while we are not busy. Other than that I use my 1/2hr lunch break to fab my stuff. Wish I had this stuff at home lol
